What people are saying about the ICE Tag®

I think that the concept has value and it is something that we would want our officers to be aware of. The need for emergency contact information is crucial to the Police Service on an almost daily basis.

This program is a compliment to the Paramedic Association program, which only is geared to cell phones.

Ed Hand (Rogers Television) speaks with Andrew Gleeson (Professional Paramedic Assn of Ottawa) about the ICE concept for cell phones and the ICE Tag.

 EMERGENCY – ICE YOUR PHONE
Ed speaks with Andrew Gleeson, Director Of Communication, Professional Paramedic Assn of Ottawa

ICE your phone is a concept that was developed by United Kingdom Paramedic Bob Brotchie after the London train bombings in 2005. It was found that over 75% of casualties had no emergency contact info on them and it took hospital staff an average of 5 hours and 51 minutes to contact family members. ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency". This is a simple and easy concept that may save your life. In order to ICE your phone, you need to have the phone number of someone who knows you best; a parent, spouse, roommate, friend, etc. Then it’s as simple as saving a contact in your cellular phone. But, instead of saving the persons name, you save the contact as "ICE Parents" or "ICE John" with one or more phone numbers that they can be reached at. If you suffer a life threatening medical emergency and are not able to speak for yourself, Paramedics will be instantly connected to those who know you best. When paramedics reach the ICE contact in your directory or address book, we can quickly obtain information about your medical problems, medications, allergies and also provide your ICE contact with emergency notification. For those people who do not carry cellular phones, an ICE tag that lists two emergency contacts can also be purchased from www.iceincaseofemergency.ca for only $5.00. Checkout the Ottawa Paramedics website at http://www.ottawaparamedics.ca Here you will find all about the ICE program, what Paramedics do in the line of duty, find a breakdown of what happens on a 911 call, and learn about the car seat inspection programs and more: www.ottawaparamedics.ca

I must admit that I am amazed at the simplicity and certainly appreciate the effectiveness as someone who does not carry ID other than credit cards and business cards.

Congratulations on this wonderful initiative.  Anything that can help in any way during an emergency situation is certainly a positive thing.  Teaming up with a charity is also a great idea.

I bought one of these for myself and each my family members. I think these are a wonderful idea and feel safer knowing we all carry one.
